Do you think we will ever figure out what happens after death?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Aside from the dying individual themselves.

By far my biggest fear, not the death but the not knowing what happens, hell? Heaven? Purgatory? Endless darkness where have only your consciousness?

It's a extremely doubtful but I hope it's found out in my lifetime. Even if it's not good ,just knowing...

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it's even possible for us to know? Be it 100 years away or a million.
Curse our brain functionality...

(I guess this could become a deep discussion but I see why it might get moved, just aiming for serious replies)

Yes I think so. They can already display your thoughts on a screen. If they improved the image and had it hooked up as someone passed then we might see what happens.

Of course if you believe the soul leaves the body then this will only answer so much. In which case, short of unlocking a doorway to the afterlife then it's the best we can do.

But that's based on activated neurons in the brain though.
After you die, your brain just slowly starts to stop, we'd get a black screen.

Most likely explanation is that you'll just lose your consciousness, we just can't comprehend what that's like.
We will probably one day get a better idea of death, especially if it's heaven/hell because then it only takes a bit of Jesus magic to find out, but we will never truly experience it until we die ourselves. Or should I say, not experience it?

Keyboard Warriors, Everywhere.

Personally I'd prefer not to know and I think it's part of the adventure, I believe absolutely that there is no heaven and hell, but if we go into nothing, somehow pass onto something else or somewhere else I wouldn't be sure about.

Keyboard Warrior

1. A Person who, being unable to express his anger through physical violence (owning to their physical weakness, lack of bravery and/or conviction in real life), instead manifests said emotions through the text-based medium of the internet, usually in the form of aggressive writing that the Keyboard Warrior would not (for reasons previously mentioned) be able to give form to in real life.

2. Keyboard Warriors are generally identified by unneccessary rage in their written communications, and are regarded as 'losers' by other virtual identities on the internet.

We all already know what happens, Nothing. Although people refuse to believe it, and think that for some unknown reason we all are linked to some post-life type existence, when our own current existence is just pure luck/coincidence as it is, and the fact we've stayed as a planet alive this long without something coming out of space randomly to finish us all off whilst we argue about petty things, again is just pure stupid luck.

As sad as that concept makes me feel, that I may never see certain loved ones ever again, it does make me cherish the time I have, which is all you can do.

I've always liked the idea of reincarnation, wouldn't it be awesome if you came back with your same consciousness billions upon billions of light years away?

Finding your way back to Earth, at least trying to would be superb fun.

Seems unlikely though, more chance of coming back as an ant or some other minuscule creature and dying within a month...

It's annoying how our brains just can't comprehend it when some animals readily accept death as part of their lifestyle, like insects that let themselves get eaten. That's just what they do but we try to find ways around it.

This. When you die, your brain (and everything else) ceases to function, and as such, so does any type of thought that could be quantified. People just have a tough time (understandably) comprehending that everything they experience in life just ceases to exist upon death. How can we imagine what its like to not exist when all we know is existing? Hence why people cling to the idea that there is something left after death.

I'm pretty sure it's been proven that your physical body itself just completely shuts down, so there's nothing to learn from that. If it's anything "spiritual" like souls I don't think it'd be possible to use science to learn that stuff. If any God(s) exist then they might eventually tell us.

With the exception of anything otherworld-ly though, we pretty much do know what happens when you die, and it's just like before you were born basically.

I'm a big believer in physical energy, in terms of the energy we produce and how that gets passed onto other things, in this case the ground once we pass on. Should that *somehow* have anything to with our memories/experiences, then by all means figure that out.

Due to the above, my resting wish is to be placed in a wicker/bio degradable casket, with a tree planted over the top, thus transferring my otherwise wasted energy into something useful. That for me is some form of life after death, passing on what you can in any form to the rest of the world.

The idea of some sort of "afterlife" place is just bonkers for me, and to be honest I'd love to be proven wrong, but my logic just writes it off. But up until that time I'll stick with my plan and get a tree going for the insects/animals to deal with.

There's still a lot of weird crap in the world to discount anything spiritual though.

Like people suddenly being fluent in completely different languages or having memories that aren't theirs.

Wasn't their one boy who remembered being in WW2 or something? He described some events that actually happened and genuinely found what supposedly is the grave stone of his past self.

And then there's the whole light at the end of the tunnel thing, millions of people have experienced that before being brought back. Well maybe not millions exactly but many people indeed.
Plus other weird examples. Memories of other lives are certainly the weirdest example I can think of.

It could be your brain making s*** up but there's been a lot of times where people knew things they shouldn't have that were actually true.

I think there's another instance where someone remembered some of a past life supposedly and actually met their husband/wife from them, able to explain things about their relationship nobody should really know.
There's no reasonable explanation for that besides some way memories transfer.

This is such a happy thread. It likes to remind me how freaky it will be when the end arrives. Death is terrifying.

On-Topic: We will never be able to know, it's scientifically impossible.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

When there's over 7 billion people on the planet, coincidences are bound to happen every now and then.
I wouldn't call pulling out exact dates and locations of things you shouldn't know about a coincidence.

I mean I could say that someone is buried under the footpath at 38 Wallaby street somewhere in Oceania.
Maybe that is true, that would be an extreme coincidence.
But that's just random s*** I thought of it's not a feeling I had.

Okay it's actually not funny that that place exists but I had a sneaking suspicion if it would exist anywhere it would be Australia, hence why I went for Oceania.
Swear to god if there's a body buried under that footpath though

Anyway too many weird instances happen to rule everything out and it's not like these things only ever happen once, if so they could be discredited of course.

Suddenly knowing other languages is one of the biggest oddities I'd say, people can bump their head and speak a totally different language, even odd but real dialects.
Like I know many Japanese words from watching anime but I could never speak it fluently, there's no reasonable explanation for others experiencing that within the realms of our current scientific knowledge.
